Where to Find the Old Key

The Prologue of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 takes place across an entire day, with the second part taking place during the Expedition’s farewell “festival”. During this sequence, there are a few items you can get your hands on that are seemingly missable beyond starting a New Game+. There are three stalls set up here, and each one requires a single Festival Token to purchase what’s on offer, be sure to purchase everything here.

You’ll start with one Festival Token, and you can obtain two more by performing small tasks here, they are as follows:

  • Festival Token #1: You start with this
  • Festival Token #2: Speak to Antoine and choose the following answers - “67 years ago”, “Expedition Zero”, and “Abilities you internalise by using a Pictos in battle after enough times”.
  • Festival Token #3: Defeat Maelle in a duel

Regardless of how you get your hands on the Token, speak to Colette (the rightmost stall) and agree to purchase the artefact to obtain the Old Key.

(1 of 2) You can get another Festival Token from Antoine and by defeating Maelle in a friendly duel.

Where to Use the Old Key

So you finally have your hands on the Old Key, but where do you actually use it? Well, you’ll need to be patient, as the Old Key is used in Old Lumière in Act II. More specifically, you’ll want to follow the directions below to reach the locked door in question.

Once you reach the Left Street Expedition Flag while controlling Maelle and Verso, make your way through the broken archway and look to your right. You’ll see a crane hook overhead, and a large broken pipe jutting out of the wall with a glowing purple item pickup perched on it. Pocket the item while you’re here (a very handy Polished Chroma Catalyst), and then drop into the inside of the pipe through the hole.

(1 of 2) Look for this pipe when controlling Maelle and Verso in Old Lumiere.

Now turn around inside the pipe and you’ll see both a corpse and a Journal behind metal gate. This gate is locked but as you may have guessed, you can finally use the Old Key to open it and snag the Journal - Fracture Survivor inside. You may have been expecting something more useful in battle, but seeing as you’ll need to track down every last Journal for the Follow the Trail Achievement/Trophy, making this an easy missable if you never got that Old Key back in the Prologue.
