Roth was a long time friend to Lara Croft’s father, having raised Lara as a daughter after her parents died. The captain of the Endurance, Roth was hired by the archeologist Dr. Whitman to serve as transportation for the third season of his show. Roth agreed, on the grounds that he could choose his own crew, leading to Lara’s position on the Endurance.
