In the fields by the woods a shepherd boy plays
on his pipe as his sheep quietly graze.
But now he has gone to fight for his king,
away in a far distant place.
His flock is long scattered with no one to lead them,
he plays now to soldiers instead.
To return to his pasture was his only dream,
But in Crécy now he lies dead.
